Jul. 22nd, 2008 11:12 am Health Care
Something I realized today. My future profession supports and relies upon people not being preventative. One of the things I criticize and hate most about our society and yet my job depends on people not taking care of themselves. Now adays, with cures popping up for everything, the obesity epidemic, antibotic resistant drugs, preventable accidences, etc. are what will keep the hospitals full and support my family. It's a weird concept. Kind of looking at the glass half empty for once. My job depends on people getting sick. Half glass full view who be that nursing helps people get better but down deep that can only happen if people get sick to begin with. Do doctors want to support preventative health care? Do I really hope there comes a day when everyone is healthy yet I am unemployed? Don't know the answer to this one.
Jul. 18th, 2008 10:36 am Girls Night, Batman, Astrological Signs, Troy...
Britt and I in Tacoma
My little heart was broken. Most of sophomore year there was that lingering crush on Tyler Faust that you convenient decided to express to him. He let you down very nicely and you were proud of your ability to put your heart out there however your heart was a little mushed. A few days later, you cracked. The flood gates opened and you started balling your eyes out. The combination of loneliness and stress from school pushed you over the edge. You decided to call Britt and asked her what she was up to (at 11:00 at night) and she mentioned she was goign to bed so she could get up and study patho in the morning. You tried to suck it up and say okay without breaking down again but Britt could tell that you couldn't handle it. She told you she was heading down to Foss to take care of you. When she showed up she gave you a big hug and told you you looked like crap. She basked Tyler to make you feel better and decided we were going to go and get ice cream at McDonald's. We wandered down the hallway, Tyler said bye and as you avoided showing him your bright pink face, Britt yelled GOODBYE! It made you feel better and that's really all that matter right then. You wandered out to Britt's car and drove up to the Mickey D's on Pac only to find out that their ice cream was broken! Not exceptable for us so Britt drove us to the MD's up the road. In the drive-through Britt decided to buy you a Happy Meal to go with your McFlurry! When the woman asked if the Happy Meal was for a boy or a girl she proudly stated "It's a Girl!" that made you both crack up laughing! You grabbed your ice cream and Happy Meal and headed to the Glass Bridge in Tacoma. Ends up that the toy with a white change purse! Sure you could have been attacked and mugged by a bum but that that moment the only thing that mattered was looking at the pretty glass, sitting with your best friend, enjoying every bit of the unhealthy Mickey D food! We got back to PLU and Britt stayed over. She was really there for you when you needed her!
Dark Knight Movie
Completed something on your Bucket List!! You saw the midnight showing of The Dark Knight on July 18th, 2008 with Sarah and Kalley from work. When you got there you realized that they were showing the movie on all 16 screens and they were packed to capacity. Sarah had gotten there first and safed the seats and sitting directly behind you guys was a kid in a full Batman outfit and another guy with his face painted like the Joker. Sarah brought snacks for everyone, including your beloved Nutter Butters!! Sarah was stoked with anticipation to see the X-files Movie preview that ended up never coming...The Batman movie was amazing and more than you expected! When the fake Batman hit the window you and Kalley jumped 3 feet! Heather Ledger played an amazing Joker and the clowns were just plain scary! When you put your mind to do something, you sure go all the way! It was an amazing night!
Danielle and Astrological Signs
So right when I started work, Sarah introduced us to mail worker Danielle. Somehow Danielle starts talking to Sarah about astrological signs as Mal and I just sat there listening discretely....at least until Danielle says "well I'm a Taurus and the one sign I just can't get along with are Aquarius." Great....I'm judged by my sign before she knows me. Next thing you know Danielle asks you your sign and you confess you are indeed an aquarius. Realizing the awkwardness of the comment before, Danelle tries to back peddle and explain that it's only living with them that drives her nuts, however the damage was done! I now know that secretly Danielle hates me and is conspiring to kill me! :D
Troy and the Seahawks Football
First semester sophomore year you had the privledge of working with Troy Andrade. "I want to be like Troy" was our staff slogan and we all knew that Joey liked Troy the best! (That's why Troy was Santa and Joey was Mrs Clause when you decorated the RA in/out board....) Anywoo, you would always hear Troy yell Alexis down the hallway which was cool because he said it! :D One day you get a knock on your door and there's Troy holding a football. He was so excited to show it to me because it was signed by Shaun Alexander and he knew I was a big Seahawk's fan! Ends up that as Troy was walking down the street, he causally came across Shaun Alexander speaking to a crowd of people. Alexander stated that he would give a signed football to the first person to correctly answer a question. I guess the question asked something along the lines of which of the following awards did Alexander not win however Troy being Troy, raised his hand and said it was a trick question and that Alexander had won all on the titles! He was right so got to bring home the football to rub in my face!! Troy was amazing! I miss him!
Jul. 17th, 2008 12:46 pm Good Feelings
I feel peaceful. Like the whole world in serene and beautiful through recognizing and appreicate the flaws and trouble it offers. Even the tiniest things seem to have been created with so much thought. Time and space is so much larger than myself and oddly I'm secure and okay with that idea. I feel I am finally finding my own skin through appreciating the skin of others. I feel at peace.
Jul. 17th, 2008 08:30 am Ordal Men in Boxers, Church, Pranks and Beanie Babies
Ordal Men in Underwear oh could you forget this one. you were visiting kingsley in pflueger at the beginning of sophomore year. the ordal ras were up to no good and were doing the late night freshman initiation/boxer run. you decided to be fun so boxed the 40ish boys in the pflueger second floor lounge. you told them you were going to have to write them up and the freshman guys hearts broked in front of your eyes. a few begged. said they were coaxed into it. the guys in tighty whitely were memorable. but then you made eye contact with andrew mcguiness. you cover was blown and they had renewed confidence. they started walking towards you, snapping their fingers, and break out in song. "pretty woman" followed by 'my girl." they won you over. how couldn't they? they smirked at you, winking as they filed out of the lounge. you later found out that the foss boys outside (who were stationed with water balloons to pelt the ordal boys) witnessed the whole ordeal. alex kaullen stuck in a lounge with 40+ mens in ugly underwear....just enough eye candy to make it a good night.
Church with Tyler
he wanted to drive up passed seattle to see his cousins sing a church. we left and once we got to the church we realized we were going to be the only people there under 45 besides the choir. ty and i stuck out like a sore thumb. we went into the church and took our seats. pretty sure we took someone's regular spot but what could we do? people kept staring at us. oh well. tyler wanted water so we found a drinking fountain. ended up being the world's shortest drinking fountain. priceless picture of that one. after listening to the choir (they were amazing) there was a huge potluck. more food than anyone could eat and tyler was super happy because it reminded him on minnesota sundays. the potluck, close church community thing is something that i envy of the small town scene he talks about. anywoo we ate and left. it was a good day and an amazing memory.
Beanie Babies
what a craze that was. wonder if they are still making those babies? people were certain that they were going to make millions if they bought the rare ones. just another trend if you ask me. like pogs or tamagotchis. furbies and pokemon cards. ashley maphis was a beanie babies nut. got up in the wee hours of the morning once to stand in line outside a store to buy some of the critters that had just come in. they bought you valentino the bear. oh beanie babies. where did you go?
couch in the bathroom
you opened the door to the bathroom on your wing sophomore year. there, up against the wall, was a 3 seater couch. no idea how they got that thing in there. your girls played a good prank that was pretty funny. best part i think was when we sat on the couch with tyler and took a picture. male ra in female bathroom. should have used it as blackmail.
Jul. 16th, 2008 04:19 pm More Memories
-Tyler hitting me in the head with the bear poo from my Alaska keychain which lead to me flipping over his couch.
-Stealing David's clothes from Harstad freshman year only to return to T-stad to hang them across the balcony.
-Making it snow for Tyler just like he wished for. And whoever planted the Poinseta in his shoe for Christmas. The favored lubercant was pretty funny to.
-Recieving Terra's voicemail about her ingrown toenail......
-The pizza man from hell that almost killed me at T-stad front desk. Damanded to use the phone, insulted the Norweigns waiting for the elevator.....oh boy.
-The PY's that I caught breaking into T-stad. Me: Who are you here to visit? Kid: My cousin. Me: What's your cousin's name? Kid: I don't know. Me: Does your cousin live here? Kid: I don't know. Me: Hello, Campus Safety.....
-Bill Merril from Heartwood Long term Care facility
-Amy Whitney being farted on by an old lady as she completed range of motion.....the nurse we were following ran out laughing.
-My day at the Adult Day Care where Tiffany colored me the first picture a client has ever given me.
-Last day of nursing clincal Fall 2007, Britt, Kate, Kailey, Shallae, Danielle, Amy, Heather, Bethany, Jan, and I all celebrated at the "Wagon Wheel" on Pac Ave.
-Putting my hand in the largest bed wound I have ever seen!
-Gwen's dog that always layed under Britt and I's hospital bed in lab Fall 2007. Oh and the calculations test that you had to get 100% on to pass the class. I screwed up on the 2nd to last try by saying "every 2 hours AND when necessary" instead of "every 2 hours OR when necessary." Gwen let me explain my mistake though and passed me!
Jul. 16th, 2008 04:00 pm V-day 2008, Xander, and Broken Windows
-V-day 2008! Myself, Kim Applebees, Stefanie Martin, and pals went to go see Step Up 2 after dinner at Olive Garden. We got dressed up all cute and had a night out as proud single, independant nurses! :) Movie was great and we drove home singing as loud as we could.
P.S.- V-day is really aka "National Single's Awareness Day.
-College bunk beds.....got stuck up on Brittany and Tyler dropped one on me at the end of sophomore year.....speaking of which, we changed that boys room around too many times. The formation never made him happy.
-Oh and what about the time that Eric and I were throwing rocks at Tyler's window....I tossed one up and than ran and hid against the window so that when Tyler looked out he sees Eric standing there by himself! So funny! Then I came stairs only to meet Tyler accusing me of cracking his window. I don't know how long that mysterious crack had been there....still wasn't me...
-Xander the fish that was more my pet than Tyler's. The fish that we never did see eat. Use to bring the bowl in my room and have him sit with me while I did my homework. I returned to school from a weekend at home only to find Xander dead in the bowl! Tyler had no idea how long he'd been dead and rather than flush the poor guy asap, Tyler decided to wait until he worked next to release it at Gonyea.....When he threw Xander into the water, Tyler claims he simply said "Alex loved you." When I returned from class I found the box Tyler had put Xander in sitting outside my door. I didn't think he would actually leave the dead fish outside my door however once I picked it up and shook it, somthing moved inside! Daringly I opened the box to find a fork and Tyler's lunch leftover's from the UC....
Later Tyler blamed me for killing the fish but we both know who's fault that was! Same with that damn bamboo! I cared for that thing for a whle month while he was gone in Antartica only for him to come back and kill the thing!
-Chris O'Connell admitting that he enjoyed J-term because he got a room to himself and could walk around naked!! Serves you right Tyler Faust after all the crap I went through while you were gone!
