Go Green!!

Read an article with some easy tips for being more environmentally savvy!

-Tighten your car gas cap: Every year 147 million gallons of gas evaporates due to loose, damaged, or missing gas caps. That's enough to fill the tanks of 8 million Sedans.....
-Switch to a concentrated laundry detergent: Regular detergent is mostly water. Buying a more concentrated brand will look like you're getting less but really it's does the same number of loads (cause you get to use less) and you save plastic by support a brand with the smaller bottle.
-Turn off the lights and put your computer on "sleep" when not in use.
-Fill up the dishwasher to full capacity before running.
-When ordering takeout, support restaurants that use recyclable containers and avoid styrofoam!
-Lower your water heater from 140F so 120F: you can save 6-10% in energy costs and personally will reduce heat-trapping pollutants/emissions by as much as 10%.
-Go vegetarian: Livestock production is responsible for 18% of the world's greenhouse gases. Also, livestock eats more grain than the meat they eventually produce; by cutting out the meat and just eating the grain, we could significantly feed more people and help world hunger.
-Test your toilet: Place a drop of food coloring in your tank and wait 15 mins. If the color shows up in the bowl, you have a leak and could be wasting 200 gallons of water per day. Buying and maintaining your toilet's "flapper" can make a huge difference.
-Do a waterless car wash: There are products, such as Eco Tough, that allow you to wash your car without water. Commercial car washes use over 40 gallons of wash and require 110 gallons of oil to operate.
-Wash your clothes on cold: Saves tons of energy. Tide campaigned that if everyone in NY washed their laundry in cold water for just one day, an estimated 7 million kWh would be saved. That's enough to light up the Empire State Building for a month.
-Cut down on junk mail: Go to catalogchoice.org to cancel the unwanted junk mail you get!
